YOUR GUIDE TO WHITEFISH
An Outdoor Enthusiast’s Paradise
Whitefish Mountain Resort
Consistently ranked one of the best all-around ski resorts in the country, Whitefish Mountain spans 3,000 acres of terrain, boasts 113 marked trails, and averages 320 inches of snowfall per year. The resort offers terrain for everyone: groomed cruisers with jaw-dropping views of Whitefish Lake, the Great Northern Range, and Glacier National Park, as well as endless expert terrain including open glade skiing in Hellroaring Basin and mandatory airs off of the East Rim.
Local’s Tips
Go straight to the top of Chair 1 to break through the cloud cover into bluebird skies and experience the phenomenon known as cloud inversions. On hardpack days, head to the back side for better conditions - more sun, softer snow, and fewer people.
Glacier National Park
Known as “The Crown of the Continent,” Glacier is truly one of the most special places in the world. It contains 1 million acres of wilderness, 700+ miles of trails, 700+ lakes and ponds, 100+ summits reaching 8,000 feet or greater, and 25 named glaciers. There truly aren’t words to do this place justice, so just trust us and plan to spend as many days here as remotely possible.
Local’s Tips
Fall is our favorite time of year in the park. There are fewer crowds (which also means more wildlife), the foliage adds yet another layer of beauty, and the good weather extends well into September - and sometimes even October!
If it’s your first time here, drive the Going to the Sun Road to the top of Logan Pass. There’s a reason this is the most popular activity in the park. We recommend stopping anywhere along the side of Lake McDonald, at The Loop, and at as many of the overlooks beyond that point that call to you.
Looking for a good trail?
There’s a lot of great ones so it’s hard to know where to start. Here are a few of our favorites:

-
Avalanche Lake Trail
This is a heavily trafficked trail but the vista at the end is worth the hype.
-
Siyeh Pass Trail
This is a long trail with a lot of elevation gain, but there’s a bit of everything. Wooded areas, 360 degree vistas, frequent wildlife, and lakes and rivers (if you wander down a few of the many side trails).
-
Mount Oberlin Trail
This trail will require you to use a bit of navigation skill and even get down on all fours at points, but the view at the top is absolutely insane.
Whitefish Lake
Nestled in between the Whitefish Range and Lion Mountain, you can’t miss the many activities and scenery that Whitefish Lake has to offer. It won’t take you more than 5 minutes to get there from the hotel and you’ll find crystal clear water and generally great conditions for summer recreation including swimming, paddle boarding, water skiing, or just lounging.
Local’s Tips
There are three great public spots to enjoy the lake: City Beach, Whitefish Lake State Park, and our personal favorite, Les Mason State Park. Call ahead and reserve paddle boards or bring your dog along for a swim at the dog-friendly beach.
Whitefish Lake Golf Club
Practice your swing at either of Whitefish Lake Golf Club’s two beautiful 18-hole courses, also located only 5 minutes from our doorstep. They’re surrounded by mountain and lake views and open to the public in spring, summer and fall. Rental clubs are available, the rates are super reasonable, and there’s a great outdoor bar/restaurant to enjoy after your round.
Local’s Tips
Save a few bucks and play a twilight round. The sun shines until 10pm in the summer!
